Pharmacy exists to ensure safe, effective, and affordable medication use in our communities, one person at a time. The Pharmacy Technician serves as a part of the healthcare team at UVA Health Northern VA Culpeper and collaborates with other team members, to provide optimal care. The Technician accepts responsibility, authority, and accountability for management and provision of care in accordance with the current policies and procedures. The Pharmacy Technician is able to demonstrates the ability to competently work in different general and specialized areas of pharmacy practice. The essential duties of a pharmacy technician at UVA Community Health are to: Demonstrate the ability to competently work in general and specialized areas of the pharmacy practice Participate in the training of new employees Fill, prepare, and deliver medications under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist/licensed independent practitioner. Consistently follows policy and procedures Ensuring adequate supplies are available for continuous patient care Triages and escalate any questions or issues outside the pharmacy technician’s scope of practice to the staff pharmacist or supervisor as needed Use appropriate systems for processing of patient information Ensure quality is maintained according to departmental and legal requirements Appropriately operate pharmacy equipment. Maintains considerable knowledge of medication names (both trade and generic) and their doses, routes of administration, Demonstrate patient interview skills and strong written and communication skills with other healthcare professionals. In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be required.
