About The Position

Position Summary: The Pharmacy Technician will support the Medication Management Clinic by interacting with patients, providers, and pharmacies regarding medication adherence and other pharmacy clinical programs. The Technician's responsibilities include assisting the pharmacist in conducting comprehensive medication reviews and other clinical initiatives by collecting, arranging, and evaluating relevant information from the patient prior to the work-up and case preparation. The Technician will also arrange appointments between the pharmacist and the patient, as well as organize any required follow-up calls. The Technician will use multiple modalities including patient and family interviews, and outside sources including community pharmacies, electronic platforms, previous medical history to obtain admitted patient’s medical history and to document complete medication list in the hospital’s EMR system for pharmacist review and approval. The Technician is responsible for assisting with troubleshooting prescription third party claim rejections and for initiating and following through with patient assistance programs to help patients afford medications. The technician will prepare, package, document, and label drug products under the direct technical supervision of the Pharmacist. The Technician will perform all required data entry and filing associated with medication order processing and perform functions related to drug purchasing and inventory control procedures. Technician will participate in the Pharmacy Department Performance Improvement projects/programs and collect data for workload measurements as needed or required. The Technician will also actively participate in training Pharmacy Residents, Interns, and new employees.

Requirements

  • Must possess the skill, knowledge and ability essential to the successful performance of assigned duties
  • Must exhibit verbal interview skills proficiency.
  • Must demonstrate excellent customer service and communication skills
  • Minimum one year full-time relevant experience as a Pharmacy Technician
  • Excellent customer service skills and ability to navigate electronic medical systems and scheduling programs
  • California Board of Pharmacy Technician Registration License in good standing
  • Ability to maintain a work pace appropriate to the workload
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships across the Health System

Nice To Haves

  • Three or more years of retail pharmacy experience and knowledge of medication brand/generic names, medical terminology, and pharmaceutical calculations.
  • Prior experience in Medication Therapy Management or Pharmacy Benefits Management and prior authorization
  • Must be able to demonstrate proper aseptic techniques
  • Experience in IV solution processing
