About The Position

The Pharmacy Technician assists the pharmacist in providing optimal pharmaceutical care to patients. This role involves gathering, labeling, and distributing medications accurately and efficiently. The technician is responsible for packaging, preparing, and safely compounding medications, including hazardous substances, while ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and department policies. Additionally, the technician handles and manages controlled substances and assists with drug diversion surveillance. If qualified, the technician may perform the duties of a Tech-Check-Tech Pharmacy Technician. The position also includes assisting with the training of new pharmacy staff and maintaining accurate medication inventories and billing of medications. Effective communication is essential, utilizing established systems and processes, and performing responsibilities in a manner that is attentive to age and ability considerations.

Requirements

  • Completion of an approved vocational Pharmacy Technician training program and at least six months of applicable experience as a Pharmacy Technician; or at least eighteen months of applicable experience as a Pharmacy Technician.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English effectively.
  • Proven history of effectively performing technical tasks and following written/verbal instructions.
  • Ability to apply math and calculator skills along with a working knowledge of the metric system.
  • Strong telephone and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience with office software computer applications and keyboarding.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a busy environment and pay attention to detail.
  • Proven organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to effectively work both independently and in a team environment.
  • Current registration with the Board of Pharmacy where required by state regulation.
  • National Pharmacy Technician Certification.

Nice To Haves

  • Completion of post-secondary education preferred.
