About The Position

The Pharmacy Technician I position involves performing essential duties under the supervision of a pharmacist, including prescription data entry, medication preparation, and coordination with various departments to ensure timely delivery of prescriptions. The role is critical in maintaining compliance with state and federal regulations while providing high-quality service to patients.

Requirements

  • Must have pharmacy intern license as required by applicable state laws OR an active pharmacy technician licensure or registration in accordance with state requirements.
  • If state does not require an exam for licensure/registration, must possess both active pharmacy technician licensure or registration and an active national certification (e.g., PTCB or ExCPT).
  • In states that do not require licensure or registration, must have an active national certification (e.g., PTCB or ExCPT).
  • Specialty or retail pharmacy industry experience, previous reimbursement experience, and/or working in a health plan/health care setting.
  • Proficiency in Pharmacy computerized systems and software applications, as well as MS Office Product Suite.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to identify and troubleshoot problematic issues.
  • Pharmacy technician experience in prescription entry, picking, labeling, and preparing medication orders for pharmacist verification.

Responsibilities

  • Perform basic duties of a pharmacy technician in all designated sites.
  • Enter prescription data and communicate with necessary parties for timely shipping and delivery of prescription orders.
  • Pull and label medication for pharmacist verification.
  • Pack medications appropriately and affix shipping labels after verification by a pharmacist.
  • Answer external phone calls pertinent to department assignment.
  • Assemble and package medications, supplies, and equipment in appropriate shipping containers.
  • Assist with maintaining accurate inventory through pulling expirations.
  • Attend designated department meetings as scheduled.
  • Communicate and coordinate with customer service, billing, pharmacy, and shipping departments to move patient orders through the system.
  • Communicate with patients, physician offices, and insurance to ensure updated prescription and prior authorization information.
  • Create pre-packaged supply items.
  • Maintain necessary licensure for pharmacy technicians.
  • Maintain the pharmacy department according to state and federal regulations.
  • Pick supplies and equipment for patient orders as indicated on the delivery ticket.
  • Prepare delivery tickets including prescription and supply items as necessary.
  • Print, collate, and triage delivery tickets according to excursion data.
  • Receive and process data entry of new and refill prescriptions in the pharmacy computer system.
  • Recognize and identify various classifications of medications, dosage forms, and routes of administration.
  • Verify prescription elements are present on all prescriptions.
