Position Overview The Pharmacy Technician I/II - Prior Authorization at our Wilson Community Health Center is responsible for supporting the collaborative workflow of prior authorizations for Carolina Family Health Centers, Inc.. The Pharmacy Technician I/II - Prior Authorization is an on-site/in-office position with opportunities to grow interpersonal skills with a multidisciplinary team. THIS POSITION OFFERS A 40-HOUR WORKWEEK, NO WEEKENDS, FULL BENEFITS PACKAGE, 12 PAID HOLIDAYS, BI-WEEKLY PAY.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid North Carolina Driver’s License.
  • Computer literacy.
  • Self-directed with good organization skills.
  • Team player with the ability to work independently.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Nice To Haves

  • Previous pharmacy work experience or community health center experience, preferred.
  • National Pharmacy Technician certification (CPhT) through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB), preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Aiding pharmacy and medical teams in the assessment of prescription & EHR messages to determine if a prior authorization is truly needed.
  • Navigating various online portals and resources related to prior authorizations.
  • Maintaining knowledge of common payers’ clinical coverage criteria for frequently prescribed medications.
  • Ensuring accurate submission of required documentation to payers.
  • Documenting work within EHR and pharmacy software systems.
  • Tracking prescription authorization processes through to determination.
  • Communicating updates effectively with patients as well as members of the pharmacy and medical teams.
  • Troubleshooting denials and collaborating with medical and pharmacy teams to determine next steps for patient access to necessary therapy.
  • Supporting health center pharmacy workflow through regular participation in medication dispensing activities.
  • Becoming a trained Medicare counselor through the North Carolina Department of Insurance Seniors' Health Insurance Information Program (NCSHIIP) within 6 months of hire & subsequently counseling patients on Medicare Part D plan options.
