About The Position
New York City Health and Hospitals Corporation is seeking a Pharmacy Technician for the Outposted Therapeutic Housing Units Program (OTxHU) within Correctional Health Services (CHS). Since 2016, CHS has been the direct provider of health care in the New York City jails, committed to human dignity and patient rights. This role is part of a pioneering initiative aimed at increasing access to high-quality clinical care for patients in custody with complicated health conditions. The OTxHU will serve as a bridge between care provided in jails and inpatient hospitalization, ensuring that admissions and discharges align with patients' clinical needs. The first OTxHU is set to open at NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue in Manhattan, with a planned completion date as early as the end of 2024. This position offers a unique opportunity to join a passionate team dedicated to serving some of the city's most marginalized populations. As a Pharmacy Technician, you will work under the supervision of the Supervising Pharmacist, performing all technical tasks related to unit dose, carry, and out-patient drug distribution systems, as well as other duties associated with a satellite pharmacy. The role requires frequent travel and the ability to work in various locations, including Rikers Island and other future borough-based facilities. The position is classified as medium duty work, involving frequent walking between facilities and lifting of medication carts weighing up to 300 lbs. The pharmacy operates with a fully computerized system, utilizing the Pyxis system at each clinic, and is currently implementing a computerized inventory system. Your responsibilities will include maintaining accurate patient profiles, filling and labeling medication bags, performing cart exchanges, and ensuring the proper stock of medications.
