About the position

The Pharmacy Technician Coordinator at the University of Michigan is responsible for training pharmacy technicians in compounding practices, ensuring high standards of care and comprehensive training. This full-time role involves coordinating educational programming, assessing competency, and supporting the Compounding Compliance Team. The position requires on-site presence with minimal remote work, focusing primarily on training activities.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and oversee initial compounding training for new employees.
  • Conduct routine competency assessments of pharmacy compounders through observational evaluations.
  • Evaluate compounding training and develop plans for improvement based on feedback.
  • Participate in daily monitoring of incubated viable samples collected by the Compounding Compliance Team (CCT).
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of training materials and pharmacy standards in collaboration with CCT personnel.
  • Provide education and training for new employees and updates for existing pharmacy programs.
  • Manage competency assessments and the Learning Management System (LMS).
  • Conduct audits of staff practices to identify needs for education and re-training.
  • Provide feedback on pharmacy compounder trainees to their supervisors for performance evaluations.
  • Participate as an active member of internal work groups and committees.

Requirements

  • Graduation from high school or equivalent education and experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience as a pharmacy technician with compounding duties.
  • Current licensure or eligibility for licensure as a pharmacy technician in Michigan.
  • Excellent communication skills in English, both written and verbal.
  • Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office and Windows-based programs.
  • Basic math skills relevant to pharmacy technician responsibilities.

Nice-to-haves

  • Completion of a pharmacy technician training program.
  • Experience as a pharmacy technician in a hospital setting.
  • Experience with training others, especially pharmacy technicians.
