About The Position

The Pharmacy Technician III at Rush Oak Park Hospital assists licensed pharmacists in pharmacy practice, taking on additional responsibilities and serving as a role model for other technicians. This role involves training and development, managing daily technical operations, and ensuring compliance with policies and procedures. The Technician III must demonstrate leadership, initiative, and the ability to work effectively in high-concentration environments.

Requirements

• High school graduate or equivalent.
• Current State of Illinois Pharmacy Technician license.
• PTCB (Pharmacy Technician Certification Board) certification.
• At least 6 months of previous experience as a pharmacy technician.

Nice To Haves

• Two years of college training or equivalent.
• ACPE IV certification.
• Hazardous drug compounding certification.

Responsibilities

• Participate in the Pharmacy Department Technician Career Ladder development and revisions.
• Interact professionally with healthcare professionals and Rush system employees.
• Coach and train other technicians and pharmacy students.
• Recognize and identify various classifications of medications and their administration routes.
• Utilize print and online references for medication information.
• Understand pharmacy workflows for medication dispensing and returns.
• Perform accurate pharmaceutical calculations and interpret pharmacy labels.
• Fill and deliver patient-specific medications and restock Automated Dispensing Cabinets (ADCs).
• Troubleshoot ADC equipment and utilize pharmacy technology effectively.
• Prepare non-sterile compounding and packaging of medications.
• Answer phones and assist with medication requests and technical duties.
• Maintain inventory and storage of assigned areas.
• Train and comply with USP standards and aseptic techniques for compounding.
• Participate in departmental committees and educational activities.
• Assist supervisors and pharmacists with technical support and staffing needs.
