About The Position

The Pharmacy Technician at Buckley Space Force Base is responsible for filling prescriptions under the supervision of a pharmacist, ensuring compliance with legal and agency regulations, and maintaining accurate records. Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited Pharmacy Technician program or certification by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB).
  • Ability to function independently as a pharmacy technician and obtain national certification within one year of employment.
  • Current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Red Cross.
  • Maintain current health screening and immunization requirements.
  • Obtain necessary security access and background checks.

Responsibilities

  • Check prescriptions for patient eligibility, drug availability, usage, dosage, and possible incompatibilities.
  • Fill prescriptions, including controlled drug prescriptions, and package drugs in appropriate containers.
  • Maintain proper record-keeping and ensure drug storage areas are stocked and secure.
  • Inform pharmacists and prescribers of questionable dosages or therapeutic incompatibilities.
  • Document all changes on prescriptions and in military electronic health records.
  • Consult with pharmacists and advise medical staff on contraindications, side effects, and alternative medications.
  • Determine the validity of drugs prescribed by physician extenders.
  • Provide guidance on Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee policies and applicable laws.
  • Annotate prescriptions to show dispensing checks have been performed.
  • Refer to standard texts and journals to stay updated on current trends and new drugs.
  • Compound medication for inpatient or outpatient use as needed.
  • Perform supply process duties including placing orders and inventory maintenance.
