Eligible employees can receive up to a $5,000 sign-on bonus! As a Pharmacy Technician Associate, you'll play a crucial role in providing pharmaceutical care to patients within the UPMC Health System. Your responsibilities include assisting with sterile and nonsterile medication preparation, medication filling, and medication distribution. All services are provided in strict compliance with Department of Health, The Joint Commission, and State Board of Pharmacy regulations. Join us in making a positive impact on patient well-being!
Requirements
- Completion of high school diploma or equivalent required AND one of the following:
- Completion of an accredited pharmacy technician program
- Six months of previous pharmacy technician experience
- Six months experience as a Pharmacy Assistant within the UPMC Health System
- Enrollment in a college program and in good standing
Responsibilities
- Prepare sterile, cytotoxic, and hazardous medications (e.g., chemotherapy) using proper aseptic technique.
- Assist in preparing oral, injectable, IV admixtures, and TPN medications to ensure accurate and timely patient delivery.
- Retrieve and credit discontinued medications.
- Distribute medications, emergency carts, and controlled substances according to policy and regulations.
- Maintain accuracy in controlled substance handling and foster positive communication during distribution.
- Use pharmacy software to update and maintain patient records.
- Keep logs and documentation current (e.g., inventory, refrigerator, eye wash, controlled substances).
- Maintain a clean, organized, and stocked work area.
- Restock automated dispensing systems, crash carts, and emergency boxes.
- Communicate effectively with staff, patients, and visitors; follow hygiene and cash-handling procedures.
- Ensure all medications are securely stored per regulatory standards.
- Support training of staff and students and comply with all laws, safety standards, and PBM requirements.
