The Pharmacy Technician Apprentice functions as a trainee under the direct supervision of a pharmacist, following established policies and procedures to support essential operations of the pharmacy department. The apprentice will gain knowledge in packaging, preparation, and distribution of medications, inventory control, customer service, and maintaining pharmacy records.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Successful completion of the Cleveland Clinic School of Pharmacy Technology program or a Florida Board of Pharmacy approved technician school within 12 months.
  • Registration as a Pharmacy Technician with the Florida Board of Pharmacy is required within 12 months from hire date.
  • Must obtain Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) certification through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) within 12 months.
  • Ability to perform algebraic calculations necessary for the preparation of extemporaneous compounds.
  • Proficient in basic computer skills.

Responsibilities

  • Accurate and timely preparation of medications including selection, labeling, repackaging, non-sterile compounding, and sterile compounding.
  • Accurate and timely delivery of medications to the appropriate storage locations.
  • Maintains accurate and appropriate inventories of medications and supplies.
  • Maintains a safe and clean work area by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
  • Documents regulatory requirements such as temperature logs, scheduled activities, and training in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Communicates with other caregivers and patients in an effective and positive manner.
  • Demonstrates emotional control and intelligence in managing work relationships.
  • Attends and actively participates in team huddles and meetings.
  • Shares responsibility for accomplishment of the team's tasks and goals.
  • Appropriately uses information systems, technology, and automation to complete assigned tasks.
  • Maintains good standing in the Cleveland Clinic School of Pharmacy Technology program per the student handbook.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
