About The Position

These roles are responsible for the administration, preparation, dispensing, and management of medications and other health products to ensure safe and effective patient care. Pharmacists and pharmacy technicians work in various settings, including pharmacies, the UVA hospitals, clinics, and research facilities. These roles are responsible for assisting pharmacists in the preparation, dispensing, and management of medications and supporting pharmacy operations. Responsible for tasks such as filling prescriptions, maintaining medication inventory, and processing insurance claims, ensuring that pharmacy operations run smoothly and efficiently under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist. About the Department UVA Health’s Inpatient Pharmacy serves an average daily census of 528 patients across the hospital. Our pharmacy technicians are essential to the safe and timely delivery of medications, working under the supervision of licensed pharmacists or independent practitioners. Note: Sterile compounding is performed in a newly renovated, state-of-the-art IV clean room. Technician roles within the IV Room will be described separately.

Requirements

  • Education: High School Graduate or Equivalent
  • Experience: 6 months minimum relevant experience
  • Licensure/Certifications: Commonwealth of Virginia Pharmacy Technician Registration required.
  • CPhT credential through National Healthcareer Association (NHA) or Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) required.
  • For team members hired prior to February 1, 2020, certification as CPhT through NHA or PTCB is required by January 31, 2022.
  • Physical Demands – Job requires standing for prolonged periods.
  • Proficient communicative, auditory and visual skills
  • Attention to detail and ability to write legibly
  • Ability to lift/push/pull less than 20lbs

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and label medications for inpatient use
  • Deliver medications directly to nursing units and patient care areas
  • Support clinical workflows and medication safety protocols
  • Collaborate with pharmacists to ensure accuracy and efficiency
