About The Position

These roles are responsible for the administration, preparation, dispensing, and management of medications and other health products to ensure safe and effective patient care. Pharmacists and pharmacy technicians work in various settings, including pharmacies, the UVA hospitals, clinics, and research facilities. These roles are responsible for assisting pharmacists in the preparation, dispensing, and management of medications and supporting pharmacy operations. Responsible for tasks such as filling prescriptions, maintaining medication inventory, and processing insurance claims, ensuring that pharmacy operations run smoothly and efficiently under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist. Individual contributors with responsibility in a clinical discipline or specialty. Spends majority of time in the delivery of support services or activities, typically under supervision. Opportunities for progression outside this career stream are typically limited without additional education or significant training and experience. Specialty license or certification required which is acquired through training and/or experience. This career stream will be most commonly applied to patient care areas. Entry-level position typically requiring little to no prior knowledge or experience and require vocational or technical education. Work is routine or follows standard procedures. Work is closely supervised. Communicates information that requires little explanation or interpretation.

Requirements

  • High School Graduate or Equivalent
  • Registration as a Pharmacy Technician with the Virginia Board of Pharmacy within 2 years of hire
  • Must register as a Pharmacy Technician Trainee upon hire with the Virginia Board of Pharmacy
  • Persons enrolled in a pharmacy technician training program must obtain a pharmacy technician trainee registration if they will be performing the duties of a pharmacy technician
