The Outpatient Pharmacy Technician assists with the preparation and dispensing of medications for patients served by Broadlawns Medical Center Outpatient Pharmacy. All duties are performed under the direct supervision of a registered pharmacist.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Registration with the Iowa Board of Pharmacy before start of employement
  • CPhT Certification
  • Ability to interact with patients, co-workers and other medical center personnel in person or by telephone in a pleasant, courteous manner.

Responsibilities

  • Fosters a team environment by working cooperatively with all staff.
  • Assists coworkers in tasks, as time permits.
  • Voices concerns and suggestions to appropriate persons in a positive manner.
  • Prepares medication for distribution to patients.
  • Distributes dispensed prescriptions to patients or their representatives.
  • Manages prescription files.
  • Provides courteous, cooperative, and timely service to patients, visitors, and staff.
  • Performs routine maintenance and accuracy verification of automated dispensing machine and other technologies as needed.
  • Stocks automated dispensing machine according to established policies and procedures.
  • Performs work within specified time frames and able to adapt positively to frequent interruptions and changes in workload and/or work schedule.
  • Maintains strict confidentiality of patient, visitor, and employee information.
  • Maintains clean work areas.
  • Completes inspection of assigned medication on a monthly basis.
  • Assists in training of new technicians, pharmacy interns and College of Pharmacy clerkship students as requested by supervisor.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
