About The Position

• Under the direct supervision of the Pharmacy Director and staff pharmacists, performs variety of duties to facilitate the delivery of pharmaceutical services to hospital departments and patients. Enters order entry in a prompt, accurate, and reliable manner according to established organizational and departmental policies and procedures. Essential Position Responsibilities • The essential position responsibilities are the basis for the 90 day and annual evaluation. Requirements

  • High School graduate or equivalent.
  • Two (2) years of pharmacy technician experience
  • Registered Technician in the State of Georgia
  • Exceptional communication, organization and recordkeeping skills

Nice To Haves

  • Pharmacy Technician (PTCB) Certification preferred

Responsibilities

  • Receives and enters accurate prescription information into the computer system in a conditional status for verification by pharmacist.
  • Organizes and prepares medications for pharmacist to dispense by reading medication orders and prescriptions, preparing labels, calculating quantities, assembling intravenous solutions and other pharmaceutical therapies.
  • Returns to stock and documents all medications not dispensed.
  • Performs restocking of automated dispensing systems and documents all information required for Quality Control purposes, as assigned.
  • Promptly reports to pharmacist any discrepancies in medication counts or missing items discovered while restocking automated dispensing systems.
  • Orders, verifies receipt, organizes and maintains appropriate inventory to support dispensing activities.
  • Operates Pharmacy and Hospital Information Systems efficiently.
  • Re-packages bulk capsules/tablets purchased into unit dose packaging in accordance with departmental medication distribution policy and procedure.
  • Removes from inventory expired/outdated drugs and supplies in accordance with departmental policy and procedure.
  • Assist pharmacists, as needed, to assure productivity and operational efficiencies.
  • Maintains the security of the pharmacy in accordance with departmental security policy.
  • Performs all assigned pharmacy procedures accurately with the highest level of integrity.
  • Provides patients with outstanding customer service and assistance.
  • Handles telephone communications with courtesy, accuracy, and respect for confidentiality of patient’s protected health information.
  • Maintains a safe and clean pharmacy by complying with procedures, rules and regulations.
  • Maintains and organizes departmental records and documentation as directed.
  • Prepares reports by collecting and summarizing information as directed.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of and sensitivity to the age specific competencies of all ages including infants, children, adults, and the elderly.
  • Participates in Pharmacy Performance Improvement Activities.
  • Adheres to hospital infection control policies and procedures.
  • Adheres to organizational and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Participates in required annual organization education and pharmacy specific continuing education.
