Prepare medications under the direction of a pharmacist. May measure, mix, count out, label, and record amounts and dosages of medications. Must type, adjudicate, and file both new and refilled prescriptions with extensive knowledge of insurance companies/rejected claims. Basic management of inventory, pulling outdated medications and returning unpicked up prescriptions. The technician must also complete duties such as cashiering and customer service. Customer service tasks include running the cash register, balancing the register, answering phones, filing prescriptions in waiting bin, assisting with over-the-counter purchases under the direction of the pharmacist, and checking voicemails.
