The Lead Pharmacy Technician is defined as someone who under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist, assist in the various activities of the pharmacy department not requiring the professional judgment of the pharmacist. The lead pharmacy technician also has supervisory and other responsibilities, such as Pyxis, Meditech, and Drug Ordering Expertise. The scope of care provided includes: General Medicine/Surgical, Intensive Care Services, Obstetrics & Gynecology, Pediatrics, Emergency Care, Transitional Care, Geriatrics and Outpatient Services.

Requirements

  • Minimum of five (5) years current hospital pharmacy experience in inpatient unit-dose and IV admixture and outpatient prescription service experience.
  • Typing skills, filing and clerical work
  • Computer knowledge, including experience with automated drug delivery systems
  • California Registered Pharmacy Technician Certificate

Responsibilities

  • technical duties such as maintaining patient records
  • setting-up, packaging and labeling medication doses
  • filling and dispensing routine orders for stock supplies of patient-care areas
  • maintaining inventories of drug supplies and mixing drugs with parenteral fluids
  • physician order entry
  • setting and updating the scheduling of technicians
  • supervising use of automated drug delivery equipment (Pyxis)
  • maintaining quality assurance programs
  • generally overseeing the performance of pharmacy technicians
