About The Position

The Pharmacy Technician performs a variety of duties and technical tasks structured to assist the pharmacist, patients, and other healthcare providers. These tasks are designed to support the medication distribution system for hospital patients. The position supports and is responsible for incorporating into job performance, the Frederick Health (FH) mission, vision, core values and customer service philosophy and adheres to the FH Compliance Program, including following all regulatory requirements and the FH Standards of Behavior.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED is required.
  • Registered Maryland Board of Pharmacy Technician is required.
  • Basic computer/keyboard skills (including MS Word, Excel, Powerpoint) and a good understanding of medical terminology are required.
  • Entry level, new Pharmacy Technician with limited or no experience.

Nice To Haves

  • National certification preferred.
  • Minimum competency in development of IV admixture preparation.

Responsibilities

  • Provide services in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
  • Support the medication dispensing practice through accurate preparation of doses and delivery of medications via computerized tube system or hand delivery as needed.
  • Maintain Pyxis stock and CII Safe, and process discharges and transfers.
  • Perform stock billing functions.
  • Assure that medication stock is in date and not deteriorated through monthly assigned checks.
  • Repackage medications supporting the unit dose systems.
  • Assist with monthly cleaning and disinfecting clean room per established procedure.
  • Work efficiently and organized complying with hospital policies and procedures under the direct supervision of a pharmacist.
  • Participate in continuous process improvement initiatives.
