About The Position

As a pharmacy technician III, in a hospital setting, this role provides specialized services in accordance with department procedures. These services may be related to the procurement, preparation, distribution, and storage of drugs, as well as the provision of clinical pharmacy services, aligning with the Pharmacy's role in ensuring safe medication use. The successful candidate must be competent in all tasks associated with Pharmacy Technician Level I and II, and is required to achieve and maintain certification from the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board. Key responsibilities include coordinating technician staff and activities, and/or being responsible for specific advanced duties. The Pharmacy Tech III also serves as a resource to both pharmacy and nursing staff for issues and questions. All duties are performed under the direct supervision of a pharmacist and according to professional standards and practices.

Requirements

  • Competent in all tasks associated with Pharmacy Technician Level I and II.
  • Achieve and maintain certification from the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board.
  • Considerable knowledge of drug names, medical terminology, and pharmaceutical calculations.
  • Ability to operate and care for automated dispensing devices and equipment.
  • Requires critical thinking skills with the ability to implement solutions.
  • Strong organizational skills, including staying focused on assigned tasks and using time and resources effectively and efficiently to achieve job expectations.
  • Excellent customer service skills including prioritizing the needs of patients and multidisciplinary team members while displaying empathy in all interactions to ensure complete satisfaction.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to work in situations involving uncertainty and rapid change.
  • A solid customer service acumen to effectively work with both internal and external customers and respond to requests in a timely and respectful manner.
  • Proficient computer skills.
  • High school diploma or equivalent OR completion of an accredited pharmacy technician training program OR Completion/Graduate of a formal Pharmacy Technician Curriculum through an accredited body.
  • Registered with the Texas State Board of Pharmacy in good standing.
  • Certification from the pharmacy technician certification board is required within 12 months of hire.
  • Certified pharmacy technician certification in good standing.
  • Certified in the process of sterile compounding (IV certification).

Responsibilities
