The Pharmacy Technician III performs advanced technical duties to support the safe, efficient, and compliant delivery of pharmacy services across inpatient and outpatient care settings. Oversees specialized areas such as sterile and hazardous compounding, medication reconciliation, automation and technology management, inventory control, auditing, and technician training. Serves as a mentor and resource for other technicians, supporting workflow optimization, quality improvement, and regulatory compliance. Collaborates with clinical, operational, and administrative teams to ensure accurate medication management, optimal use of automation systems, and high-quality patient care. The Pharmacy Technician III Mentors and is a resource for staff; supports onboarding, competency validation, and workflow coaching. Collaborates with pharmacists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure safe and timely medication management. Develops and maintains reports, documentation, and records supporting compliance with USP standards, Board of Pharmacy rules, and Carilion policies. Evaluates and assists with drug shortages, backorders, and product substitutions. Supports continuous improvement efforts related to safety, efficiency, and cost management across pharmacy operations. Performs advanced technical duties in Cardiology outpatient practice and includes: -May conduct medication reconciliation, update records in Epic, and resolve discrepancies. -Be the content expert for specialty cardiology medications in regards to prior authorization, medical and pharmacy authorization, affordability and access programs, scheduling and frequency of authorization and appointments required for these medications. -May work with purchasing, returns, billing, and DSCSA documentation.. -Work directly with patients to assist in the coordination of care as directed by physicians and pharmacists in the specialty area. -May coordinate training, validate competencies, and support technician development. Accept duties assigned by Cardiology physicians, pharmacist and leadership. Duties listed above represent a general scope of responsibilities.
