POSITION SUMMARY DEFINITION Under the general direction of the registered Staff Pharmacist, to perform specialized clerical work in the preparation of prescriptions and other medications for inpatients and outpatients; maintain comprehensive patient medication files; work with and assist pharmacist in the maintenance and manufacture of routine intravenous solutions and special solutions as requested by physicians; and does other related work as required. CLASS CHARACTERISTICS This is the full journey level class within the Pharmacy Technician series. Employees within this class are distinguished from the Pharmacy Technician I by the performance of the full range of duties as assigned including the ability to work independently, exercising judgment, performing related purchasing and receiving/storing duties, and initiative to a specific assignment. Employees at this level receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise, and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies of the work unit. Under the guidance and supervision of the Staff Registered Pharmacist, the technicians are responsible for the bulk of the medication distribution and processing of prescriptions and medication orders. POSITION QUALIFICATIONS Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way would be: Education Completion of an accredited Pharmacy Technician training program as evidenced by receipt of certification/registration by the State of California.
