JOB TYPE Classification: Non Exempt Supervises Positions: JOB SUMMARY The Pharmacy vision is to deliver optimal medication management across all dimensions of care, every time. Each pharmacy team member is essential in ensuring that UVA Health Northern VA Culpeper Pharmacy exists to ensure safe, effective, and affordable medication use in our communities, one person at a time. The Pharmacy Technician serves as a part of the healthcare team at UVA Health Northern VA Culpeper and collaborates with other team members, to provide optimal care. The Technician accepts responsibility, authority, and accountability for management and provision of care in accordance with the current policies and procedures. Applicants without current Registration as a Pharmacy Technician with the Virginia Board of Pharmacy may enroll in the Pharmacy Technician University (PTU) online program. Prior to enrollment, applicant must pass reading comprehension and math pre-enrollment assessments in three attempts or less. A minimum score of 70% is required for each assessment prior to acceptance into the program. Experiential training completed at the pharmacy practice site and program prepares the team member to pass the national Pharmacy Technician certification exam. Candidates accepting a position in the Pharmacy Technician University (PTU) will continue in their role as a pharmacy technician after completing the program and achieving their Registration as a Pharmacy Technician with the Virginia Board of Pharmacy. Candidates must complete Pharmacy Technician University and achieve registration within 2 years of employment. QUALIFICATIONS Education: High School Diploma or GED required. Experience: No experience required; 1 year of relevant experience preferred Refer to the Life Support Training Policy for additional details. Licensure: Registration as a Pharmacy Technician with the Virginia Board of Pharmacy within 2 years of hire required. Must register as a Pharmacy Technician Trainee upon hire with the Virginia Board of Pharmacy. Persons enrolled in the Pharmacy Technician University (PTU) program must obtain a pharmacy technician trainee registration if they will be performing the duties of a pharmacy technician. Additional Skills/Requirements Required: State Registration and/or evidence of renewal is required for both Pharmacists and Technicians fifteen days prior to expiration or be actively enrolled in pharmacy school or be active in Foreign Pharmacy Graduate Equivalency Examination (FPGEE) or Foreign Pharmacy Equivalency Certification (FPGEC). Considerable knowledge and application of basic math skills, including ratio and proportion relationships; strong verbal and written communication skills, ability to follow verbal and written instructions. Basic technology skills. Other duties as outline in UVA Health Northern VA & Culpeper and facility specific policies and procedures. Ability to drive/travel to multiple facilities/locations as needed. Ability to work as part of a high performing, change ready and resilient team. Additional Skills/Requirements Preferred: Considerable knowledge of medication names (both trade and generic) and their doses, routes of administration, and adverse effects; the ability to demonstrate patient interview skills and strong written and communication skills with other healthcare professionals.
