About The Position

The Ambulatory Pharmacy Technician at Penn Medicine is responsible for processing prescriptions in a clinic setting, ensuring patients and their families receive the necessary medications. This role involves collecting medication histories, filling prescriptions, and coordinating payments under the guidance of pharmacists, while maintaining effective communication with clinical staff and patients.

Requirements

  • Pharmacy Technician certification (CPhT) is required.
  • High school graduate or equivalent is required.
  • At least one year of retail pharmacy experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Determine patient insurance requirements for pre-certification, payments, and coverage limitations prior to discharge.
  • Maintain communication with ambulatory clinical pharmacists, social workers, and specialty pharmacy team members to obtain accurate financial information for claim adjudication.
  • Communicate any issues with coverage to the clinical practice for appropriate next steps.
  • Proactively communicate benefit investigation information to clinical practices and patients.
  • Support all myPennPharmacy services as needed.
  • Collaborate with internal team members to gather necessary paperwork, prescription, and billing information.
  • Provide follow-up communication to patients, clinical practices, and families regarding pharmaceutical needs and eligibility information.
  • Interact with medical staff to obtain complete and timely clinical and financial information for payer reimbursement.
  • Educate patients and clinical practices about insurance coverage related to discharge medications.
  • Perform duties in accordance with Penn Medicine values, policies, and procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned to support the unit and health system organization.
