Requirements

  • Currently enrolled student of accredited School of Pharmacy
  • Current applicable state Pharmacy Intern License required

Responsibilities

  • Ensure the safe and appropriate use of medications through comprehensive pharmaceutical care, under direct supervision of a pharmacist.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of clinical pharmacy and apply this knowledge when staffing in the pharmacy.
  • Perform all clinical activities under the direct supervision of a pharmacist and as appropriate to the intern’s level of education and experience, including those described in the Legacy Intern Manual.
  • Demonstrate competency in a variety of settings, both inpatient and outpatient.
  • Perform medication reconciliation during transitions of care.
  • Provide appropriate medication counseling to patients in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
  • Complete accurate IV admixing and compounding, following Compliance and 795/797 Standards.
  • Assist with operations of automatic dispensing cabinets (ADC) including refilling, loading, and unstocking medications.
  • Respond to changes in workload as necessary and use time productively by assisting technicians & other pharmacists, restocking, cleaning, ordering, organizing, and special projects.
  • Utilize professional oral and written communication with pharmacy team members, management, nurses, providers, and patients.
  • Demonstrate empathy, good listening skills, and maintain open communication channels.
  • Uphold strong rapport with health care practitioners and demonstrate appropriate telephone and other communication skills.
  • Provide quality medication-related care by ensuring accurate and efficient distributive services.
  • Prepare medication orders in assigned areas under the direct supervision of a pharmacist (e.g., compounding, IV admixture, first doses, and central fill).
  • Utilize pharmacy computer technology to dispense medications.
  • Complete outdates and quality control for medications stocked in the hospital.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of hospital, departmental and regulatory policies and procedures and incorporate this into daily workflows.
  • Update pharmacy knowledge and skills to provide quality pharmaceutical care.
  • Attend pharmacy related educational opportunities offered at a System level and at their site of practice.
  • Complete required Legacy education and self-learning modules as assigned.
  • Prepare medication use evaluations and educate pharmacy staff on new drug therapy if assigned by manager.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and application of patient, personnel, department and facility safety and security.
  • Apply established policies and procedures, safety, security, and emergency plans.
  • Maintain accurate inventory and records on controlled substances as required by law.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and orderly work environment.
  • Report safety concerns and events in the iCARE System and to their manager.
  • Follow established policies and procedures for facilities.
  • Maintain temperature monitoring and maintenance per protocol.
  • Document all work appropriately in electronic records system.
  • Clean sterile products preparation area daily to maintain integrity of sterile products environment.
  • Document maintenance as required.
