About The Position

Nemours is seeking a Pharmacy Student Intern (CASUAL/PRN), to join our Nemours Children's Health team in Wilmington, Delaware. Enrollment and in good standing status with an accredited school of pharmacy is required. This is a whole year internship program, during the school year students work every 3rd weekend (both Saturday and Sunday). During the summer, interns work 2-3 shifts weekly for 5 weeks (it can be nonconsecutive weeks) and during winter time, interns works 2-3 shifts per week. There is a commitment to work 3 holidays in a year. Currently the shifts could start as early as 7:00 am or as late as 2:30pm. These are 8.5 hours shifts which are subject to change based on department needs. This Pharmacy Student Intern position is responsible for providing Pharmacy Services within the Inpatient and Outpatient Pharmacy Department of the Nemours Alfred I DuPont Hospital for Children (AIDHC).

Requirements

  • High School Diploma required.
  • Enrollment and in good standing status with an accredited school of pharmacy is required.
  • Delaware Pharmacy Intern License-proof of license required within 90 days of hire.
  • Hospital experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assisting in the preparation and delivery of all medications to patients.
  • Providing customer service to internal and external customers.
  • Preparing, dispensing and distributing medications.
  • Performing various functions associated with the AIDHC drug distribution system.
  • Demonstrating familiarity with the general duties and responsibilities of a Pharmacy Student Intern.
  • Preparing individualized doses of sterile and non-sterile extemporaneous medication.
  • Calculating the concentration and volume of the medication to be used prior to its preparation.
  • Ensuring all doses prepared are verified with a pharmacist prior to dispensing.
  • Completing daily PO Production process in the designated start time and sequence of patient care units.
  • Preparing patient specific batch IV production for daily exchange within standard cycle time.
  • Following USP 797 and USP 800 Guidelines and Compliance.
  • Delivering medication on an hourly basis to the appropriate storage area.
  • Maintaining and organizing inventory supply in a manner that minimizes inventory storage cost.
  • Participating in hospital and departmental Continuous Improvement (CI) activities.
