Job Description: The Pharmacy Resident will function effectively as a staff pharmacist within a rapidly growing medically integrated oncology specialty pharmacy. During the 12-month residency, the Pharmacy Resident will rotate through educational areas: Oral oncolytics, IV chemotherapy/immunotherapy, pharmacy leadership and business.

  • EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: Graduate of an ACPE-accredited Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) program.
  • Must have active, unrestricted Tennessee Pharmacy Licensure within 6 weeks after the start of the residency year
  • PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Ability to travel independently and to access information from other departments
  • Ability to regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, climb, balance, bend, kneel, couch, crawl, and stoop
  • Ability to operate an automobile for travel to all clinic locations

Responsibilities

  • Verification check of accuracy, appropriateness, and quality for all dispensed products
  • Maintain proper storage and security conditions for drugs in accordance with state and federal requirements
  • Ensure safe handling, appropriate personal protection equipment, as needed and proper adherence to policies in sanitizing workspace during preparation/dispensing of medications including hazardous medications
  • Demonstrate clinical acuity in patient profiles assessment of drug to disease state in customizing medication counseling for dosing, directions, side effect management, storage/handling, missed dose, and drug/drug interactions or allergies
  • Adhere to SOP’s, guided by NCODA accreditation standards and organizational policies and procedures, for onboarding and patient management
  • Provide education materials and counseling information to patients for intravenous and oral oncology medications
  • Provide on-call pharmacy services outside normal business hours, weekends, and holidays
  • Collaborate among multi-disciplinary team in medication therapy management for adherence, side effect management and optimal therapy across route of administration
  • Maintain REMS certifications and counselor certifications for all required products
  • Meet periodically with preceptor and Residency Director to stay on track with residency rotation goals and objectives
  • Complete evaluations promptly for both the learning experience and preceptors
  • Present at least one (1) continuing education talk during the residency year
  • Successfully design, complete IRB submission for approval/exemption, carry out and develop a manuscript of a major project to be determined within the first two (2) months of the residency start date, with the objective to present a poster at the NCODA Spring Forum Clinical Meeting
  • Participate in special projects and/or research as requested
  • Miscellaneous duties assigned, requested and/or required by RD and management
