The Walgreens and Nova Southeastern University PGY1 Community-Based Pharmacy Residency Program provides postgraduate training to pharmacists so that they achieve their professional goals, become a leader within the profession, provide compassionate care for the members of their community, and contribute to the Walgreens Company's advancements in health care. The resident will have the opportunity to work closely with an interdisciplinary healthcare team at different specialty and ambulatory sites, with some sites servicing roughly 1,000 patients a month, to optimize clinical outcomes. The resident will receive training at pharmacies that offer clinical services to HIV/AIDS, oncology, transplant, fertility, and chronic inflammatory disease patients. The resident gains insight to medication management, medication reconciliation, and educational and behavioral counseling. Graduates are prepared for clinical and leadership positions in the community and specialty pharmacy setting and the community at large. This residency is offered in partnership with Nova Southeastern University College of Pharmacy and will provide the resident the opportunity to develop academic skills by acting as a preceptor and educator and by conducting research. In addition, the resident will actively participate in education of pharmacists, technicians, and pharmacy students.
