About The Position

The purpose of this PGY1 residency program is to provide residents the opportunity to build upon their Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) education. Residents participate in numerous learning experiences, including providing patient care in various settings, completing a clinical research project, precepting pharmacy students and interns, and educating other disciplines. Upon completion of this program, pharmacy residents will be well-prepared for clinical pharmacy practice and patient care. The role is responsible for optimizing patient care by promoting rational, safe, and cost-effective drug therapy.

Requirements

  • Proof of education (Doctor of Pharmacy).
  • State Pharmacy License at the start of the program.
  • Eligible for pharmacist licensure in Massachusetts (such as being a graduate or candidate for graduation from an ACPE-accredited degree program or one in process of pursuing accreditation; or have a Foreign Pharmacy Graduate Examination Committee certificate from NABP).
  • For PGY2 Candidates: Proof of enrollment in and successful completion of a PGY1 residency experience must be provided within 30 calendar days of PGY2 start date.
  • Must be already matched via the National Matching Service (https://natmatch.com/ashprmp).
  • Doctor of Pharmacy Pharmacy required.
  • Pharmacist [State License] - Generic - HR Only required.
  • Pharmacy Intern [State License] - Generic - HR Only required.
  • Experience with computer word processing 1-2 years required.
  • Knowledge of pharmacy information systems, automated dispensing technology, and personal computers.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Strong communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Pharmacy experience 0-1 year preferred.
  • Some experience with spreadsheets or databases and other computer software 1-2 years preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Participates in patient care rounds as appropriate.
  • Contributes to and participates in the department's medication use evaluation plan, including but not limited to Clinical Management Initiatives (CMI).
  • Reviews current medical/pharmacy literature regularly for recent developments in disease state therapeutics as well as new product development.
  • Provides health professionals with drug information and/or references.
  • Optimizing patient care by promoting rational, safe, and cost-effective drug therapy.
  • Providing patient care in various settings.
  • Completing a clinical research project.
  • Precepting pharmacy students and interns.
  • Educating other disciplines.
