About The Position

The purpose of this PGY1 residency program is to provide residents the opportunity to build upon their Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) education. Residents participate in numerous learning experiences, including providing patient care in various settings, completing a clinical research project, precepting pharmacy students and interns, and educating other disciplines. Upon completion of this program, pharmacy residents will be well-prepared for clinical pharmacy practice and patient care. The resident is responsible for optimizing patient care by promoting rational, safe, and cost-effective drug therapy.

Requirements

  • Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) required
  • Proof of education and a State Pharmacy License at the start of the program
  • Eligible for pharmacist licensure in Massachusetts (such as being a graduate or candidate for graduation from an ACPE-accredited degree program or one in process of pursuing accreditation; or have a Foreign Pharmacy Graduate Examination Committee certificate from NABP)
  • Must be already matched via the National Matching Service (https://natmatch.com/ashprmp)
  • Pharmacist [State License] - Generic - HR Only required
  • Pharmacy Intern [State License] - Generic - HR Only required
  • 1-2 years experience with computer word processing required
  • Knowledge of pharmacy information systems, automated dispensing technology, and personal computers
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Strong communication skills

Nice To Haves

  • 0-1 year pharmacy experience preferred
  • 1-2 years experience with spreadsheets or databases and other computer software preferred

Responsibilities

  • Provide patient care in various settings

  • Optimize patient care by promoting rational, safe, and cost-effective drug therapy
  • Perform all duties associated with the Registered Pharmacist position within the scope of licensure
  • Initiate and document pharmacist interventions to change prescribing where required
  • Participate in patient care rounds as appropriate
  • Contribute to and participate in the department's medication use evaluation plan, including but not limited to Clinical Management Initiatives (CMI)
  • Review current medical/pharmacy literature regularly for recent developments in disease state therapeutics as well as new product development
  • Provide health professionals with drug information and/or references
