Position Objective: A 12-month, organized training program to advance the pharmacist’s knowledge, skills and abilities to provide medication-related care of patients with a wide range of conditions and settings. Upon completion of the program, competencies will be achieved in areas of acute care, ambulatory care, medication management, practice management, and practice related education/training. The resident is also responsible for the efficient and accurate provision of pharmaceutical care as a pharmacist (i.e. traditional drug distribution and clinical pharmacy services). Program Description: The PGY1 residency program is a 12 month learning experience. Residents complete a 6-week introductory orientation to the Pharmacist position and complete 9 learning experience rotations, each during a 4 to 5-week period. The “PGY1 pharmacy residency program builds on Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) education and outcomes to contribute to the development of clinical pharmacists responsible for medication-related care of patients with a wide range of conditions, eligible for board certification, and eligible for postgraduate year 2 (PGY2) pharmacy residency training.” [ASHP 2017].
