About The Position

The Pharmacy Purchasing Agent at University Hospitals is responsible for overseeing the procurement of pharmaceutical products and departmental supplies under the supervision of the Pharmacy Manager. This role involves administrative duties related to purchasing, providing recommendations for cost-saving measures, processing invoices, and ensuring compliance with contracts. The agent will also participate in inventory management and may perform Pharmacy Technician II duties as needed.

Requirements

  • High School Equivalent / GED (Required)
  • 1+ years as a pharmacy purchasing agent in a hospital or community setting (Required)
  • Ability to work on a team to analyze and recommend contract awards and lead in implementation of agreements to achieve reduced costs (Required proficiency)
  • Ability to influence customers to apply contracts for use (Required proficiency)
  • Knowledge of healthcare purchasing practices and regulations (Required proficiency)
  • Strong interpersonal skills and excellent communication skills both written and verbal (Required proficiency)
  • Proficient computer skills, Microsoft Office and Windows (Required proficiency)
  • Familiar with operation of standard office equipment (Required proficiency)
  • ERP experience a plus; i.e. Oracle, Lawson, SAP, PeopleSoft (Required proficiency)
  • Functional knowledge of pharmacy automation equipment (Required proficiency)

Nice To Haves

  • Project management experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Purchase all pharmaceutical products for the institution ensuring contract compliance.
  • Provide pharmaceutical acquisition services to non-pharmacy departments to meet their specific needs.
  • Achieve significant operational savings/efficiencies through procurement strategies.
  • Interface with Accounts Payable and Receiving to clear mismatches.
  • Participate in prudent and effective inventory management.
  • Engage in purchasing innovation to improve non-salary expenses.
  • Participate in the UH System Pharmacy Buyer group.
  • Perform Pharmacy Technician II duties as needed.
  • Comply with all policies and standards.
