About the position

The Pharmacy Manager at Walgreens is responsible for providing empathetic pharmacy consulting services, ensuring the effective use of medications, and managing pharmacy operations. This role includes overseeing pharmacy staff, enhancing patient experience, and ensuring compliance with regulatory guidelines. The Pharmacy Manager also plays a key role in financial management, inventory control, and the professional development of pharmacy staff.

Responsibilities

  • Engages patients by greeting them and offering assistance with products and services.
  • Models and shares customer service best practices with all team members.
  • Connects with patients by anticipating needs and proactively offering services.
  • Counsels patients and answers questions regarding usage of medicine and side effects.
  • Performs pharmacist tasks including compounding and medication management.
  • Reviews, interprets, and accurately dispenses prescribed medications.
  • Ensures the pharmacy operates in accordance with regulations and company policies.
  • Collaborates with Store Manager to define and develop new strategic business opportunities.
  • Maintains information technology knowledge of pharmacy systems.
  • Ensures insurance claims are processed accurately to prevent payment rejections.
  • Follows up with medical providers to clarify prescribed medications and dosages.
  • Performs clinical and wellness services such as immunizations and diagnostic testing.
  • Manages the maintenance and improvement of the pharmacy department.
  • Prepares and submits all records and reports as required by laws.
  • Collaborates with Store Manager on pharmacy staff hiring and performance management.
  • Maintains required licensing and enhances knowledge related to pharmacy and healthcare.
  • Supports the Store Manager by communicating relevant corporate health and wellness services.
  • Analyzes performance data including pharmacy financials and customer service.
  • Develops and maintains good relationships with the local medical community.

Requirements

  • BS in Pharmacy or Pharm D Degree from an accredited educational institution.
  • Current pharmacist licensure in the states within the district.
  • Certified Immunizer or willing to become an immunizer within 90 days of hire.
  • At least 1 year pharmacy experience including prescription filling and pharmacy operations.
  • Experience performing prescription dispensing activities with knowledge of controlled substance laws.
  • An average rating of at least 3.0 on leadership behaviors on the last performance review (internal candidates only).

Nice-to-haves

  • Supervisory experience planning, organizing, and directing the work of pharmacy staff.
  • At least 6 months pharmacy experience with Walgreen Co.
  • An average rating of 3.7 or above on leadership behaviors on the last performance review (internal candidates only).
