About The Position

Under the direction of a pharmacist and in coordination with other technicians, the Pharmacy Technician IV: May prepare oral, topical, and intravenous medications for dispensing to patients. May make scheduled deliveries to appointed nursing units to deliver medications to patients. May assist pharmacists with medication order entry into the pharmacy computer system. Maintains stock levels of medications to avoid delays in service to patients. Demonstrates ability to work as a member of a team. Serves as functional and technical expert in each area or specialty. Leads and directs technical activities in that specialized area. Anticipates, recognizes and solves the most complex issues and questions that arise within the team, department, or with customers. Acts as a positive role model for all technicians and acts in an encouraging manner conducive to the hospital, department and administration’s visions and values. Assists with and/or leads productivity management, training, and mentoring of new staff, special projects, and committee meetings. Comply with all hospital and department rules, regulations and requirements. In addition to performing all duties of a Pharmacy Technician III, this position coordinates daily workflow, organizes daily assignments, and provides overall support to the operation of the department. The Technician IV provides quality assessment and audit activities for the Pharmacy area. This position functions to assist the licensed pharmacist in providing pharmaceutical services to patients, as well as providing necessary services and information to nursing and medical staff. These services include leading the preparation and packaging of medications; distribution of medications, supplies, and equipment; maintaining proper inventory levels; and keeping appropriate records and documentation. This position is also responsible for supporting initiatives of area managers and frequently assists in their implementation. This position aids with assessing Pharmacy Technicians’ performance for annual appraisals, as well as orienting new staff to the Pharmacy area. The Technician IV may cover additional Manager responsibilities as necessary in the Manager’s absence, or if a vacancy should occur.

Requirements

  • High School graduate or equivalent.
  • Certified Pharmacy Technician.
  • 4 years of relevant experience required.

Nice To Haves

  • 6 or more years of relevant experience preferred.
