About The Position

At CHI Health Mercy Council Bluffs, the Pharmacy Intern role offers motivated pharmacy students the opportunity to gain hands-on clinical experience within an inpatient pharmacy team. Working alongside experienced pharmacists, interns will develop essential skills and confidence for their future careers while directly contributing to safe, high-quality patient care. This structured learning experience is designed to evolve with the student's academic progression, with responsibilities expanding as they advance through pharmacy school (P1, P2, P3 years), offering meaningful and progressive experience.

Requirements

• Current enrollment in an accredited College of Pharmacy
• Iowa Pharmacist Intern Registration

Responsibilities

• Assist pharmacists with medication preparation, compounding, and distribution
• Utilize pharmacy automation to enhance safety and efficiency
• Prepare sterile and non-sterile compounded products (including IV admixtures)
• Manage medication inventory, including controlled substances and cycle counts
• Support narcotic distribution and maintain accurate perpetual inventories
• Conduct medication storage inspections across clinical areas
• Perform precise pharmaceutical calculations
• Respond to medication-related questions from healthcare teams and patients
• Participate in clinical and administrative pharmacy functions
• Build core skills in medication preparation, distribution, and inventory
• Learn pharmacy automation systems and unit-dose processes
• Develop strong communication with healthcare teams
• Gain experience in aseptic technique and pharmaceutical calculations
• Take on operational projects and process improvement initiatives
• Participate in department meetings, training, and team collaboration
• Mentor and train newer team members
• Lead and present clinical or operational projects
• Strengthen leadership and advanced pharmacy practice skills
