About The Position

The Pharmacy Intern assists pharmacists in providing pharmaceutical care to patients. This role involves duties related to the preparation and distribution of various drug dosage forms, requiring specific knowledge and skills. The intern is responsible for tasks consistent with their certification status and may perform specialized duties not typically handled by other technicians. The position supports patient pharmaceutical care while ensuring compliance with state and federal laws, as well as Joint Commission guidelines.

Requirements

  • Completion of a Board of Pharmacy approved technician course OR current enrollment or letter of acceptance in a professional academic pharmacy program at an accredited university
  • Satisfactory progress maintained in the professional academic pharmacy program
  • Current registration with State Board of Pharmacy as a pharmacy intern
  • Knowledge of National, State, and Corporate regulations and standards.
  • Knowledge of medical and pharmacy terminology.

  • Ability to handle urgent, stressful situations
  • Corporate and departmental mandatory training required annually
  • Ability to exhibits interpersonal skills in interacting with supervisors, peers, and others outside pharmacy.

Responsibilities

  • Obtains supplies, prepares and labels drug orders under the direct supervision of a pharmacist.
  • Calculates and compounds aliquot doses.
  • Distributes and/or transports medications to appropriate patient care areas in a timely manner and under a pharmacist's supervision.
  • Makes beneficial recommendations for improvements in procedures, guidelines and continuing education training.
  • Monitors inventory levels, stocks shelve, maintains order and cleanliness in assigned areas and maintains all required records.
  • Receives and/or initiates verbal medication orders if authorized to do so by his/her supervising pharmacist.
  • Serves as a good steward of the institution's resources, including time on the job.
  • Provides training and participates in the in servicing of departmental employees and students.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
