About The Position

The Pharmacy Intern position at Texas Health Alliance is a PRN (as needed) role with rotating shifts, including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays. Texas Health Alliance is a 151-bed, full-service hospital in North Fort Worth, providing care to residents in Keller, North Richland Hills, Haslet, Roanoke, and surrounding areas. The hospital offers advanced services in wellness, outpatient surgery, women’s imaging, and radiology. It features a Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and Level III Trauma services, is Joint Commission-accredited, and holds Disease-Specific Certifications for Acute Heart Attack Ready (AHAR) and Stroke care. Additionally, it is designated as a Baby-Friendly Facility and a Pathways to Excellence hospital. The intern will be responsible for completing assigned projects, performing quality assurance functions, preparing medications for dispensing, ensuring compliance with legal requirements, maintaining Pyxis stock, and assisting with inventory control.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Other valid intern registration card from the Texas State Board of Pharmacy Upon Hire

Nice To Haves

  • 1 year of professional inpatient acute care experience strongly preferred

Responsibilities

  • Complete projects as assigned by Director of Pharmacy.
  • Ensure projects are completed in a timely manner.
  • Ensure communication of project aspects are clear and concise.
  • Perform regularly assigned quality assurance functions.
  • Complete daily refrigeration checks.
  • Complete monthly expiration date checks.
  • Complete Carousel Inventory (Counts are corrected as discovered).
  • Complete Narcotic Inventory.
  • Ensure prepack record keeping is accurate and complete.
  • Prepare medications for dispensing.
  • Pull medications promptly and accurately from carousel or other storage area.
  • If trained in SPL, compound IV medications, TPN solutions, etc. following aseptic technique and policies and procedures.
  • If trained in satellites, accurately and promptly refill each tackle box.
  • If trained in narcotics area, prepare narcotic delivery for pharmacist review.
  • Complete all paperwork without errors.
  • Assist in meeting legal requirements of the pharmacy and hospital.
  • Complete all paperwork/documentation as required by laws, rules and regulations.
  • Perform pharmacy tasks in compliance with laws, rules and regulations.
  • Perform Pyxis stock maintenance functions.
  • Prepare medications for delivery to Pyxis machines in a prompt and accurate manner.
  • Deliver medications promptly to ensure access to medications by nurses, respiratory therapists, other appropriate personnel.
  • When adding medications to Pyxis machines, consider look-alike sound-alike medications and appropriately locate medications to prevent risk of error.
  • Consider size of pockets when placing medications to prevent damage to medications or Pyxis hardware.
  • Restock returned medications to carousel.
  • Assist in inventory maintenance and control.
  • Ensure medications are accurately stocked/restocked in a timely manner.
  • When an unusual order is known, notify purchasing personnel to ensure proper stock levels.
