Requirements

  • Current enrollment as a Pharmacy Student.
  • Current State Board of Pharmacy Certificate of Pharmacy Intern

Responsibilities

  • The Pharmacy Intern assists the Pharmacist in the support of the drug distribution systems, including patient counseling and pharmacokinetic calculations, and participates in performance improvement and data collections activities.
  • The Pharmacy Intern is responsible for dosage preparation, preparation of sterile admixture using aseptic technique, floor stock delivery, pre-packaging, billing, receiving, and stocking.
  • Other responsibilities include inventory control, controlled substances distribution, documentation and accountability, assisting in the inspection of medication storage areas throughout the hospital, and maintaining the cleanliness of the department.
  • All responsibilities are performed under the supervision of a licensed Pharmacist according to local board of pharmacy and state regulations.
  • The Pharmacy Intern participates in providing pharmaceutical care for the following age groups: neonates, pediatrics, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics.
  • The Pharmacy Intern performs other tasks as assigned by the Pharmacist.
