The Pharmacy Intern is responsible for assisting the pharmacist in various duties related to the procurement, distribution, documentation, and compounding of drugs, solutions, and equipment to meet the needs of patients and staff. The intern must be familiar with dosages and volumes of medications and solutions for infant, pediatric, adolescent, and geriatric patients, particularly in relation to medication compounding and dispensing. The role functions in accordance with standard written procedures, guidelines, and state and federal regulations. Responsibilities include the admixture of medications to IV solutions, preparation of unit dose syringes, chemotherapy medications, and compounding of solutions/medications used in critical care and OR satellite areas. The intern is also responsible for maintaining adequate stock levels in assigned areas, providing drug information and patient education under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist, and completing assigned projects that may include staff education and clinical data collection and analysis.
