The Pharmacy Intern – Outpatient, PRN supports a high-volume ambulatory pharmacy averaging approximately 400 prescriptions per day in a collaborative, patient-facing environment. This role rotates through multiple work areas with cross-training in all functions, including prescription typing and filling, customer service and register support, phone communication, and inventory management, with shared responsibility for daily workstation tasks. In addition to operational duties, the intern gains exposure to clinical activities such as prescription transfers, patient counseling, medication therapy management (MTM), immunizations, and project work, providing a well-rounded outpatient pharmacy experience. A caregiver in this role will work variable day and evening shifts full time during the summer and as able to during the school year.

Requirements

  • Enrolled in an accredited College of Pharmacy program and meets education requirements to qualify for intern license in the State of Ohio OR International pharmacy experience which meets the requirements to qualify for the Foreign Graduate Pharmacy Intern License
  • Current State Board of Pharmacy Intern License (PH/INT) before your start date
  • Typical physical demands include ability to perform job while standing, reaching, stretching and sitting for prolonged periods; manual dexterity sufficient to perform computer functions of job.
  • Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required for procedures.
  • You will be required to comply with this program, which will include obtaining an influenza vaccination on an annual basis or obtaining an approved exemption.

Responsibilities

  • Review and assess medication orders to identify, prevent, and resolve potential and actual drug related issues.
  • Recommend formulary alternatives when appropriate.
  • Compound and prepare medications for delivery to patient care areas.
  • Provide drug information and education to medical staff and patients.
  • Communicate with physicians and other clinicians as necessary to facilitate care.
