Department Pharmacy Administration Job Summary The Pharmacy Intern II, under the supervision of a pharmacist, learns and practices the basic operational and clinical skills required to be a licensed pharmacist. Based on area of assignment, roles and responsibilities may vary within the scope of pharmacy practice. The pharmacy intern performs pharmacy-related functions to ensure the safe and effective use of medications at Denver Health.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED active enrollment in an accredited school of pharmacy
- PHARMIN-Pharmacy Intern - DORA - Department of Regulatory Agencies Required
- PBID-Pharmacy Based Immunization Delivery - BPS - Board of Pharmacy Specialties Required
- BLS-Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) - AHA - American Heart Association Required
- Knowledge of basic pharmacy practices and procedures.
- Mathematical computation skills.
- Organization and communication skills.
- Ability to work as a team member with attention to detail.
- Computer skills and basic knowledge of Microsoft Office preferred.
Responsibilities
- Fills and delivers medications under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist.
- Compounds medications for outpatient sales and/or delivery to patient care areas.
- Handles and triages telephone/window inquiries.
- Ensures adequate supplies are available for continuous patient care.
- Coordinates insurance billing including third party prescriptions if/when in the retail setting.
- Uses appropriate systems for processing of patient information.
- Triages and escalates any questions or issues outside the pharmacy intern’s scope of practice to the staff pharmacist or supervisor as needed.
- Develops leadership skills.
- Assists in operational projects.
- Collaborates with pharmacy leadership, peers, nurses, and providers to improve patient outcomes.
- Ensures quality assurance is maintained according to departmental and legal requirements.
- Attends and participates in departmental meetings, in-services, huddles, and departmental trainings as applicable.
