The Pharmacy Intern is supervised by a licensed pharmacist and is involved with the preparation, dispensing, and distributing medication to patients. While being supervised, the individual may engage in all activities related to pharmacy practice. Additionally, opportunities to observe clinical pharmacists will be offered to interns during their available hours, subject to staffing availability. How You’ll Impact Patient Care: Under the general guidance of a pharmacist, the pharmacy intern undertakes the responsibilities of a pharmacy technician, including tasks such as fulfilling medication orders, delivering medications, compounding both sterile and non-sterile preparations, and gathering medication history. Additionally: All completed under the supervision of a pharmacist. Prepares medications for dispensing. Interviews patients to obtain medication history. Perform duties related to medication ordering, receipt, stocking, and inventory control. Performs clerical duties in the pharmacy to ensure efficient operations. Receives and interprets medication/prescription orders and enters them into the pharmacy computer system. Performs medication and prescription billing activities. Opportunity to hold site and/or system pharmacy intern leadership positions. Participation in mock job/residency interviews with CV review. Project opportunities to work with site and system leadership. Intern Development series to learn about various topics pertinent to professional development. Certification is available upon completion. Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served. Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the department's policies and procedures.
