The Pharmacy Fulfillment Technician is responsible for providing pharmacy services which include, but are not limited to, preparing and distributing pharmaceuticals, maintaining pharmacy records, packaging and shipping medications and operating/monitoring pharmacy automated technology systems. The Pharmacy Fulfillment Technician works under the direct supervision of the Pharmacists and/or the Pharmacy Technician Supervisor to ensure delivery of high quality patient focused pharmacy service. This position maintains and performs medication fulfillment related competencies for central fill, traditional, and specialty prescriptions. It involves placing completed prescription medication into appropriate packing container and using associated supplies to ensure product integrity is maintained throughout the shipping process. This process includes preparing contents for shipment by weighing, labeling, and recording information about each package within the shipping software, and securely sealing each container. The technician must be able to use hand tools, adhesives, padding, and other products to protect package contents following approved guidelines regarding proper packaging. They must also follow URAC standard and regulations for fulfillment and distribution of specialty drugs and ensure shipping patient/clinic mailing/destination address label is accurate. Under the direct supervision of a pharmacist and/or the Pharmacy Technician Supervisor, the technician supports the department in the ethical practice of pharmacy on a daily basis by providing effective, appropriate, and safe pharmacy services. They prepare prescription orders in a timely manner, retrieve, count, measure, and prepare medications as directed, and ensure all work is checked by a pharmacist. The role supports the service needs of the pharmacist relative to pharmacy services and maximized patient care outcomes, such as ensuring the prescription is dispensed to the correct patient in a professional manner. The technician communicates to pharmacists and/or pharmacy technician supervisor on malfunctioning equipment and unsafe working conditions. They are responsible for maintaining their own professional and specialized competency, including participating in experiences necessary for skill development and training, maintaining knowledge of field developments through continuing education, and attending professional meetings and workshops. The position requires maintaining registration with the Massachusetts Board of Pharmacy and excellent familiarity with appropriate department policies and procedures. This includes adapting to changes in departmental needs, maintaining medical information confidentiality, keeping the work environment clean and orderly, conforming to hospital standards of performance and conduct, utilizing hospital's behavioral standards, and adhering to infection control and safety procedures.
