Job Summary: Works under a registered pharmacist’s direct supervision. Performs a variety of technical and clerical duties for the hospital-wide unit dose drug distribution system. Purchases and receives pharmaceutical stock procured through the prime vendor contract. Purchases intravenous (I.V.) solutions and pharmaceutical supplies. Maintains adequate inventories to support the institution’s patient care needs. Manages drug shortages by locating, procuring, and arranging pharmaceutical deliveries when not available through regular suppliers. Manages the inventory to maximize budgeted resources utilization. Conducts recalls of various drugs. Maintains records of all pharmaceutical transactions. Resolves drug shortages promptly by prioritizing the workload to support quality patient care. Arranges for emergency purchases and ensures item deliveries. Maintains records for drugs borrowed and loaned from other hospitals in accordance with the Florida Board of Pharmacy (FLBOP) requirements. Reconciles transactions continuously. Direct Supervision. A pharmacist gives specific instructions on all assignments. A pharmacist reviews the technician’s work for completeness and accuracy, or the technician performs tasks with inherent checks built into the nature of the work.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent (e.g., Certificate of High School Equivalency).
  • Successful completion of a Florida Board of Pharmacy (FLBOP) approved pharmacy technician training program.
  • Four (4) years pharmacy experience
  • Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) credential from the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or the National Healthcareer Association (NHA).
  • FLBOP registration in accordance with Florida Statutes, Title XXXII (Regulations of Professions and Occupations), Chapter 465 (Pharmacy), Section 014 (Pharmacy Technician).

  • Meets all training requirements applicable to the pharmacy technician job series, up to and including the Pharmacy Technician IV/Cert (JC: 072705) job classification.
