About The Position

The Pharmacy Diversion Program Manager leads the planning, development, and oversight of Northern Arizona Healthcare’s Medication Diversion Prevention Program (MDPP). Ensures best practices in medication handling and regulatory compliance to prevent and detect diversion of controlled substances across all Northern Arizona Healthcare (NAH) facilities. Works under the System Director of Pharmacy Services, coordinating partners with nursing, compliance, legal, and risk teams. Serves as chair of the NAH Diversion Prevention Committee and facilitates system-wide collaboration to drive safety, transparency, and accountability.

Requirements

  • Arizona State Board of Pharmacy license that is active and in good standing - Required
  • 3 years of healthcare leadership experience in complex operations or program coordination.
  • 1 year of experience with diversion detection tools (e.g. Pyxis, CII Safe, Omnicell, Bluesight).
  • 2 years of experience in investigations or a significant healthcare background.
  • 1 year of analytics, data reporting, and trending expertise.
  • Comprehensive Expertise of medication handling and diversion regulations.
  • Familiarity with DEA, CMS, ISMP, FDA, EPA, ASHP, and Arizona Board of Pharmacy standards.
  • Proficient in audit procedures and analytics tools (Excel, Access, PowerPoint).
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication for cross-functional collaboration.
  • Meticulous, confidential, and adept at managing sensitive investigative procedures with discretion and efficiency.
  • Skilled at facilitation, education, system improvements, and compliance initiatives.
  • Bachelor's Degree in pharmacy from an accredited college of pharmacy- Required

Responsibilities

  • Leads the development of system-wide dashboards and analytics tools to monitor diversion trends and guide proactive interventions.
  • Administer and maintain NAH’s MDPP across inpatient, outpatient, and specialty settings.
  • Improve system-wide knowledge sharing, protocols, and communication.
  • Designs and operationalizes internal audit frameworks for medication reconciliation, inventory validation, and compliance with state and federal regulations.
  • Coordinate surveillance and audits of the entire medication lifecycle.
  • Oversees sensitive investigations involving patient data, employee records, and disciplinary actions in coordination with HR and legal teams.
  • Represents pharmacy leadership on the local and regional Diversion Response Team (DRT), ensuring coordinated and timely response to diversion incidents.
  • Facilitate multidisciplinary diversion prevention committees and provide program leadership.
  • Assist departments in regulatory reporting and investigation of diversion events.
  • Analyze incident data and lead response planning in alignment with NAH’s safety goals.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of regulations from the DEA, FDA, CMS, EPA, Arizona Board of Pharmacy, ISMP, ASHP.
  • Serves as a mentor and trainer to pharmacy staff, nursing, security, and associated staff, fostering a culture of accountability and continuous learning.
  • Support staff training in medication diversion prevention based on role-specific risks.
  • Develop and implement education, policies, and competencies tailored to staff roles.
  • Responsible for reporting any safety-related incident in a timely fashion through the Midas/RDE tool; attends all safety-related training programs; safely performs work; monitors work environment for possible safety issues and ensures others are also performing work in a safe manner.
  • Stays current and complies with state and federal regulations/statutes and company policies that impact the employee's area of responsibility
  • If required for the position, ensures all certifications and/or licenses are up-to-date and valid prior to expiration dates.
  • Completes all company mandatory modules and required job-specific training in the specified time frame.
