About The Position

The Antimicrobial Stewardship Clinical Coordinator is responsible for the coordination of antimicrobial stewardship for Driscoll Children’s Hospital. The coordinator will support safe, efficient, effective, equitable, timely and patient-centered care associated with antimicrobials. The coordinator will assist the Director of Pharmacy with the ongoing management of protocols, policies, procedures, practice expectations, and develop quality and performance initiatives associated with antimicrobials. Additionally, the Coordinator will provide comprehensive education and training for the pharmacy staff and other hospital personnel as needed (medical staff, nursing, laboratory, etc.). The coordinator will identify opportunities for improvement via evidence-based practices, regulatory and accrediting agency requirements, and current performance in key clinical and financial outcomes. The coordinator will apply knowledge and strategies for improving antimicrobial usage based on published literature, national guidelines, and best practices.

Requirements

  • Doctorate in Pharmacy (PharmD) or Bachelor’s degree (BPharm) from an accredited college of pharmacy
  • Five years of clinical patient care experience or completion of a PGY2 residency training program or combination of clinical patient care and residency training.
  • Texas Pharmacist license

Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with the Director of Pharmacy to plan, develop, implement, and oversee all activities associated with the Antimicrobial Stewardship Program (ASP)
  • Facilitator of the Antimicrobial Stewardship Committee and primary resource for achieving ASP goals in collaboration with key stakeholders.
  • Coordinates development, review, and maintenance of clinical tools, policies, procedures, and order sets related to antimicrobial use to ensure adherence to best evidence and institutional guidelines.
  • Conducts and reports on prospective and retrospective audits, provider feedback, and quality improvement initiatives focused on optimizing antimicrobial therapy (e.g., de-escalation, dose optimization, IV-to-PO conversion, drug-bug mismatches).
  • Oversees antimicrobial use monitoring, formulary management, and drug utilization evaluations, and communicates findings and recommendations related to antimicrobials to the Director of Pharmacy.
  • Leads or supports educational initiatives by providing lectures, in-services, and ongoing training for pharmacy, medical, and nursing staff on antimicrobial stewardship and pediatric pharmacotherapy.
  • Serves as a preceptor for pharmacy students and residents.
