The Pharmacy Clinical Specialist – Pediatric Acute Care is a newly created, decentralized clinical role located at Main Campus within the Pediatric Department and supports a highly specialized Pediatric Acute Care service. As part of a close-knit team of approximately five pediatric pharmacists, this caregiver collaborates closely with physicians, pharmacists, leadership, patients and interdisciplinary care teams in a fast-paced clinical environment. The specialist provides coverage across multiple pediatric service lines, including transplant, epilepsy, cardiology and general pediatrics, offering broad clinical exposure while deepening expertise in pediatric acute care. This high-impact role is designed to ensure continuity of coverage, eliminate service gaps and allow the pharmacist to be fully embedded within care teams to make a meaningful difference for pediatric patients and their families. A caregiver in this role will work Monday through Friday from 7:30am to 4:00pm with weekend rotations occurring every 8th weekend. Holiday rotations occur every 5th holiday. No on-call requirements but may float within pediatric acute care service lines.

Requirements

  • PharmD or Bachelor’s Degree in Pharmacy from an accredited college of Pharmacy
  • Current state licensure as a Registered Pharmacist (RPh) or eligible within 90 days of hire
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) and completion of a Board of Pharmacy approved course in the administration of immunizations or certification obtained within 90 days of hire (if administering immunizations)
  • Completion of a Post-Graduate Year 2 Residency (PGY2) or fellowship OR completion of a Post-Graduate Year 1 Residency (PGY-1) and two years of experience as a Clinical Specialist or an equivalent role, including providing pharmaceutical care and performing pharmacotherapeutic monitoring for at least 50% of time in the specialty area OR four years of experience as a Clinical Specialist or an equivalent role, including providing pharmaceutical care and performing pharmacotherapeutic monitoring for at least 50% of time in the specialty area

Responsibilities

  • Routinely and continually provide pharmaceutical care for patients, considering their age and clinical condition.
  • Provide general and patient specific drug information to patients, physicians, nurses and, and other health care professionals.
  • Support Clinical Pharmacists in providing pharmaceutical care to patients by direct interaction and formal educational programs.
  • Maintain expertise in areas of practice through continual learning, journal review and other educational activities.
  • Educate Clinical Pharmacists, Technicians, Pharmacy Students, Post-Graduate Trainees and other caregivers in Pharmacotherapy within in the specialty area.
