The Pharmacy Clinical Specialist – Gynecologic Oncology serves as an integral member of the oncology care team, supporting both inpatient and outpatient gynecologic oncology services. This caregiver spends approximately 25% of their time in a decentralized inpatient role, rounding with patient care teams, providing evidence-based medication recommendations and supporting complex oncology pharmacotherapy. The remaining 75% of time is dedicated to outpatient gynecologic oncology practice, managing patients under a collaborative practice agreement, delivering drug therapy recommendations and providing comprehensive patient education. The majority of work occurs in the outpatient setting at Taussig Cancer Institute, with designated workspace available on the inpatient floor and access to office space for documentation and clinical coordination. Caregivers are drawn to and remain in this role due to the opportunity to precept learners, engage in professional growth and contribute to a growing team within a world-class organization. A caregiver in this role will work Monday through Friday from 8:00am to 4:00pm including every 8th weekend. Holiday requirements are 1 per year, alternating between a major and minor holiday. No on-call requirements.

Requirements

  • PharmD or Bachelor’s Degree in Pharmacy from an accredited college of Pharmacy
  • Current state licensure as a Registered Pharmacist (RPh) or eligible within 90 days of hire
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) and completion of a Board of Pharmacy approved course in the administration of immunizations or certification obtained within 90 days of hire (if administering immunizations)
  • Completion of a Post-Graduate Year 2 Residency (PGY2) or fellowship OR completion of a Post-Graduate Year 1 Residency (PGY-1) and two years of experience as a Clinical Specialist or an equivalent role, including providing pharmaceutical care and performing pharmacotherapeutic monitoring for at least 50% of time in the specialty area OR four years of experience as a Clinical Specialist or an equivalent role, including providing pharmaceutical care and performing pharmacotherapeutic monitoring for at least 50% of time in the specialty area

Responsibilities

  • Routinely and continually provide pharmaceutical care for patients, considering their age and clinical condition.
  • Provide general and patient specific drug information to patients, physicians, nurses and, and other health care professionals.
  • Support Clinical Pharmacists in providing pharmaceutical care to patients by direct interaction and formal educational programs.
  • Maintain expertise in areas of practice through continual learning, journal review and other educational activities.
  • Educate Clinical Pharmacists, Technicians, Pharmacy Students, Post-Graduate Trainees and other caregivers in Pharmacotherapy within in the specialty area.
