This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated Critical Care-trained pharmacist to join Boston Medical Center, a large academic medical center, as a Clinical Specialist on a team of Critical Care and Emergency Medicine pharmacists. The Clinical Specialist will primarily provide coverage to the Medical ICU, Surgical ICU, Cardiac ICU, or Neurosciences ICU, but will additionally be cross trained to cover in our Emergency Department. The position requires decentralized weekend coverage every 4th weekend and decentralized ICU evening coverage approximately every 8 weeks. Pharmacy services at Boston Medical Center are indispensable and highly integrated at the front-line level for patient care and into the broader leadership level of the organization. Residency and student training will be a central component of this position. Boston Medical Center has six PGY1 residents and PGY2 programs in Critical Care, Emergency Medicine, Infectious Diseases, Oncology, and Ambulatory Care. The Clinical Specialist will be expected to lead and participate in novel quality improvement or research projects that improve the care of critically ill patients and advance pharmacy practice. Finally, there will be opportunities for professional growth and advancement as the Pharmacy Department at Boston Medical Center seeks to further advance practice by striving to be leaders in quality improvement and patient safety.

Requirements

  • Requires a Doctorate of Pharmacy from an accredited College of Pharmacy
  • Completion of a PGY1 Pharmacy Practice residency
  • Work requires licensure to practice pharmacy in the state of Massachusetts and/or eligible for licensure in the state of Massachusetts.
  • Applicant can be licensed in another state and pending reciprocation.
  • Deep knowledge of medications, their effects, drug interactions, medical procedures and therapies, diagnosis and disease states required.
  • Effective interpersonal skills to interact appropriately with hospital staff, patients, families/visitors, physicians, colleagues, and others.
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize essential tasks and meet deadlines
  • An organized work style and ability to keep well written documentation.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Additional language skills can be a plus.
  • Must possess self-management skills and require little to no supervision. This person must be a self-starter, self-motivating, have a strong work ethic and must have the ability to identify issues or opportunities that require attention and change.
  • Must possess and exhibit process improvement skills and acumen.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Experience with Microsoft programs (i.e. MS Word, Excel, Outlook) and web browsers

Nice To Haves

  • Completion of a PGY2 Critical Care residency is preferred (or at least three years of relevant experience)
