As a Pharmacy Clinical Specialist in Cardiology, you will provide advanced clinical services across general cardiology, electrophysiology, interventional cardiology, vascular medicine and the full continuum of care for pre- and post-operative cardiothoracic surgery patients. At Cleveland Clinic’s Heart, Vascular & Thoracic Institute, you’ll collaborate with world-class cardiovascular providers, contribute to leading innovations in practice and technology and care for some of the most complex cardiovascular patients in the world—even within our stepdown units. A caregiver in this position works from 7:00am to 3:30am and every 8th weekend. Requirements include 1 holiday per year.

Requirements

  • PharmD or Bachelor’s Degree in Pharmacy from an accredited college of Pharmacy
  • If hired for a specialty area where specialty residency training is available, then specialty residency is required.
  • Current state licensure as a Registered Pharmacist (RPh) or eligible within 90 days of hire
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross and completion of a Board of Pharmacy approved course in the administration of immunizations or certification obtained within 90 days of hire (if administering immunizations)
  • Completion of a Post-Graduate Year 2 Residency (PGY2) or fellowship OR completion of a Post-Graduate Year 1 Residency (PGY-1) and two years of experience as a Clinical Specialist or an equivalent role, including providing pharmaceutical care and performing pharmacotherapeutic monitoring for at least 50% of time in the specialty area OR four years of experience as a Clinical Specialist or an equivalent role, including providing pharmaceutical care and performing pharmacotherapeutic monitoring for at least 50% of time in the specialty area

Responsibilities

  • Routinely and continually provide pharmaceutical care for patients, considering their age and clinical condition.
  • Provide general and patient specific drug information to patients, physicians, nurses and, and other health care professionals.
  • Support Clinical Pharmacists in providing pharmaceutical care to patients by direct interaction and formal educational programs.
  • Maintain expertise in areas of practice through continual learning, journal review and other educational activities.
  • Educate Clinical Pharmacists, Technicians, Pharmacy Students, Post-Graduate Trainees and other caregivers in Pharmacotherapy within in the specialty area.
