Job Summary and Qualifications Purchases pharmaceuticals and other supplies utilizing existing contracts. Maintains adequate, but not overstocked, inventory of needed pharmaceuticals. Removes outdated, unusable, or recalled items from inventory.

Requirements

  • Pharmacy Technician Registration with Florida Department of Health required
  • High School Graduate / GED
  • 2 years related experience required

Nice To Haves

  • PTCB Pharmacy technician certification preferred

Responsibilities

  • Maintains accurate bar code shelf labels to reflect current contract products.
  • Enters, maintains and retrieves data and information.
  • Purchases drugs/supplies from wholesaler/supplier to manage inventory.
  • Checks drugs' cost before ordering for correct contract prices. Notifies vendor of difference and if needed, corporate office.
  • Orders and maintains purchasing records for off-site facilities.
  • Updates department requisitions to maintain inventory accuracy.
  • Updates formulary in Meditech system by entering price, NDC #, manufacturer, package size ordering info.
  • Informs clinical coordinator of formulary items not being used and increased usage of non-formulary items.
  • Purchase orders are processed and typed daily with complete accuracy as to drug trade name, quantity and vendor.
  • Inventory is evaluated for order quantity prior to placing orders daily.
  • Price approvals are processed and returned to accounting before monthly closing date.
  • Enters charges and credits into the computer
  • Emergency and routine borrowing, purchasing and delivery arrangement are done as necessary, appropriate records are kept.
  • Monthly report is completed and turned in to accounting by the deadline date.
  • Place direct orders to manufactures as needed.
  • Orders narcotics and maintains narcotic purchasing records.
  • Monitor all invoices to assure accuracy of billing. Resolve discrepancies with suppliers.
  • Monitor merchandise for accuracy of fill.
  • Resolve filling errors and shortages with suppliers immediately.
  • Assure distribution to appropriate storage areas and rotation of merchandised daily
  • Process drug recalls immediately upon notification and informs clinical coordinator or a pharmacist in his/her absence when drug product availability may impact patient care.
  • Submit to pharmacy manager a summary report of drug recalls each quarter of the year.
  • Prepare merchandise to be returned to wholesaler within 10 days of purchase.
  • Ship out-of-date and unusable drugs to authorized processing center quarterly, or as needed.
  • Routinely makes suggestions for improvement in cost effective delivery of services.
  • Assists in the training of new personnel and student activity.
  • Gathers information for Director, pharmacy manager and/or Clinical Coordinator as required.
  • Attends monthly staff meetings.
  • Interface and problem solve with wholesaler representatives and technical support staff as needed.
  • Interface with manufacturer representatives to support departmental purchasing goals.
  • Coordinates and totals annual inventory.
  • Performs monthly controlled drug audits.
  • Completes special projects as assigned
  • Performs other related functions as assigned.
